Old Floresta is Boca Raton's first historic district, designated in 1990. Addison Mizner's development company laid it out in the 1920s as homes for its executives, on shaded streets named for flowering plants: Alamanda, Aurelia, Azalea, Hibiscus, Oleander and Periwinkle.
Original Mediterranean Revival homes with barrel-tile roofs, stucco walls and courtyards stand beside newer homes built in the same spirit, just west of Mizner Park and Downtown Boca Raton and a short drive from the beach.
